Book Creator App
Mrs. Altavilla’s Second Grade class has created Informational books using the Book Creator app for iPads. Informational writing is one of the second grade writing standards. Students were the experts in the area they choose to write about. They designed their book with pictures that they took using the iPad camera, they wrote the book, peer edited the books, and then recorded their books using the app. When they were finished creating their book they practiced presenting their book and then in small groups presented them to Mr. Keane’s third grade class.
For this project students used external keyboards with the iPads allowing them to type their books quicker. During this project, students learned how to use Book Creator, how take and add pictures into their book, and how to record their voice reading their book. Students also practiced their writing and editing skills. This project also helped with fluency in reading as the students would record their book and then listen to it. If they didn’t like the way they read the book they would go back and re-record it.
With Book Creator you can create children’s books, journals, photo book, picture books, read along books and more. You may choose from over 50 fonts, add photo’s and images from your camera or the web, and use video, music or record your own voice. When the book is complete you can email it, send it to a cloud service, save it as a movie file, upload it to the web, or even airprint. The Book Creator app is available in the app store for $4.99. So give it a try!
