BrainPOP’s Make-A-Map Opens Doors for Student Thinking
Last fall, BrainPOP added a new concept mapping tool created by Ideaphora called Make-A-Map. This incredible new feature allowed for my students to organize their thoughts as well as tap into higher order thinking. Each map represented a snapshot of how that particular student thinks and on top of that, became a unique piece of art!
Each topic on BrainPOP comes with Make-A-Map as well as opportunities to save and submit to a teacher. Students can actually title the map as well as describe their thinking. In addition, BrainPOP has a movie starring none other than Tim and Moby explaining how to create a concept map. Once students view it, their concept maps seem to improve dramatically. Clicking on “Concept Mapping” below will allow you to view the video as well as explore Make-A-Map tool! Have fun!
Make-A-Map has created much excitement recently as students can now use this feature on an iPad. For example, when second graders were studying states of matter, one class chose to show their understanding through Make-A-Map right on their iPads. At this point students need to go directly to the mobile site verse the app, but are thrilled to do so and start creating!
