A Word Cloud Worth Exploring
Easy to use and super kid friendly, ABCYA’s Word Clouds allows students to tap into their creativity. Students are able to type words on a blank screen with a variety of choices for layouts, colors, and font. In addition, students have the ability to randomize their words as well as preview a word cloud and continue to edit. This seems to be a perk that both students and teachers love. One can also save a word cloud to a device as well as print it.
All words must be separated with a comma and space. If students desire for a word to appear larger than others due to level of importance, they must simply type it more than once. Last week, Mrs. Mack’s third grade class created word clouds in honor of Mother’s Day and many started like this.
Students were then asked to type words that represented their mom or another important family member they were celebrating. They enjoyed this lesson immensely as it encouraged choice, creativity, and fun. Students were also highly motivated as they knew their word clouds were going to become one of a kind presents for this special occasion. Needless to say, it was also a great lesson on word choice.
